The Filoxenia Villa at Koutsounari is an apartment facility in the style of a Cretan manson. It stands on a slope above the coast and enjoys most beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, and of the Libyan Sea. Several one- and two-storey buildings frame an inner yard with comfortable garden furniture which is roofed by an overgrown pergola. The terraces and balconies have pergolas as well, and there are plenty of flowers and other ornamental plants. The facility includes 6 holiday flats which have one separate bedroom each, and 4 family apartments with two separate bedrooms each. The 6 standard apartments each have 45 square meters of floor space, one separate bedroom, and a convertible sofa in the living-room which makes the third accommodation. Each of these holiday flats has a living-room with an attached kitchenette, air conditioning (included), satellite TV, alarm clock, bathroom with WC, and balcony or terrace with views of the mountains and the sea. The kitchenettes have electric hobs, ovens, extractor fans, integrated refrigerators/freezers, coffee-makers, electric kettles, toasters, and electric juice squeezers. Down by the beach there are some hotels, and on the slopes around the village many private villas and apartment facilities were raised in recent years, mainly because of the fascinating views of the Libyan Sea and of the neighbouring Thryptis Mountains. An extensive beach of sand and fine gravel is 1,000 meters from the apartment facility. There are several tavernas near to the house which offer Cretan and Greek specialties, and a small supermarket. Shops of many kind and supermarkets with a rich choice of fresh seasonal fruit and vegetable can be found in Ierapetra (8 kms). There are also numerous open-air cafes, restaurants and tavernas for any taste and budget. Iraklion airport is 102 kms away, Sitia airport 58 kms.

Koutsounari is small, typically South Cretan village on the eastern south coast of Crete, some 150 meters above sea level and approx. 800 meters from the coastal road that runs from Europe's southernmost town Ierapetra (8 kms) to Makrighialos (17 kms). Besides the beauty of nature, the area also provides the highest temperatures and the highest number of sunny days in Europe and therefore during both the summer and the winter is a most popular holiday site for sun lovers. On the beaches of Ierapetra and Makrigialos numerous watersport offers can be found e.g. waterski, wind surfing, wetbikes, and pedaloes. Kato Mera, the old town of Ierapetra, is of typical Mediterranean flair and has many small shops and workshops where hand-made souvenirs of many kind are offered. The Venetian fortress which looks very much like the one at Frangokastello is also worth a visit.
