Situated in the township of Winchester on State Highway One, one and half hours drive south of Christchurch and three hours drive north of Dunedin. Kavanagh House is on State highway One, 200 hundred metres from Highway 72, the turn off to Geraldine & Queenstown. Coming from Christchurch, continue south past the small town of Orari. Winchester is the next small town, around a 10-minute drive. Alternatively turn right after Rangitata Bridge onto highway 79. Go through Geraldine town and keep on this road until the end, then turn left. We are 200 metres on the left. Kavanagh House is in close proximity to the towns of Timaru, Temuka, Geraldine, Pleasant Point and Peel Forest.

The town of Winchester is 1-½ hours south of Christchurch and approximately 3 hours north of Dunedin, located on State Highway 1. It is only 10 minutes from Temuka and Geraldine. Other surrounding areas include Pleasant Point, Peel Forest and Timaru. This area is known as the "Central South Island". The area has a population of 42,000 and has activities for everyone, such as golf, walking, hikes, fishing, hunting, snow skiing and water skiing. Canterbury is also the location, where some of the filming for Lord of the Rings and Vertical Limits took place
