Travel guide San Vito Lo Capo
Flying to Sicily
In Italy, you can get from Germany quickly, but not in Sicily. For this reason, we recommend traveling to San Vito Lo Capo by plane. As a rule, you will land in
Palermo. From there, you can take a rental car or bus for the 90-kilometer journey to San Vito Lo Capo in the northwest of Sicily. If you land in
Trapani, the distance to your private holiday home in the Gulf of Castellammare is 60 kilometers.
Plenty of sun and warm sea
The best time to travel to an affordable holiday apartment in San Vito Lo Capo depends largely on your tolerance for heat. If you can't get enough of the heat, then July or August are the ideal travel months for you. The temperatures reach an average of 30 degrees during these months, and you don't have to worry about rain. The water temperature is also up to 30 degrees. If you prefer it less hot, come in June, September, or October. The daytime temperatures still move above 25 degrees during these months. The sea invites you to swim with temperatures between 23 and 25 degrees.
Enjoy the richness of the sea in San Vito Lo Capo
From your affordable holiday apartment in San Vito Lo Capo, you can practically smell the sea. It is therefore not surprising that one ingredient must not be missing in the local restaurants: fish. Due to the enormous regional variety of species and a multitude of traditional preparation methods, Sicilian cuisine is extremely diverse and surprising. A local fish specialty, for example, is swordfish, but tuna and anchovies also have their big moment in Sicilian cuisine.
However, not everything is fish on Sicily's plates. Due to its proximity to North Africa, the influence of Maghreb and Arab cuisine spills over to Sicily. The Moroccan influence is noticeable, for example, in the preparation of couscous as a side dish, the use of Marsala, or the typical arancini di riso, stuffed and fried rice balls.
Swimming, snorkeling, diving - family vacation by the sea
San Vito Lo Capo is a true paradise for a family vacation in Sicily. The fine, powdery, long sandy beach of San Vito Lo Capo with the panorama of Monte Monaco in the background is reminiscent of the beach panorama of Rio de Janeiro with Sugarloaf Mountain. The warm temperatures and crystal-clear quality of the seawater, as well as the possibility to snorkel or dive, ensure a perfect
beach holiday in Sicily. Also part of the municipality of San Vito Lo Capo - and thus not far from your private holiday apartment - is the Bue Marino bay. This beach bay was awarded the most beautiful in all of Italy in 2015 by the environmental organization Legambiente.
Following the footsteps of the Romans
If the temperatures are not too hot, you can quickly turn your beach vacation into a
hiking vacation in the surroundings of Trapani. Near San Vito Lo Capo, there are several opportunities to stretch your legs on short or long tours in a wonderful environment. You can climb Monte Monaco, which is close to your private holiday home, in a three-hour hike. The crossing of the idyllic nature park "Riserva Naturale Orientata dello Zingaro" from Scopello to San Vito Lo Capo also takes just as long. This hike offers dwarf palms, bathing bays, and caves. Both hiking tours are of low difficulty.
Once in Sicily, you should not miss the ancient, culturally significant remains in the southeast. The most important historical sights include the Roman amphitheater of
Siracusa and the Ear of Dionysus, a mystical limestone shaped like an ear shell.
Ragusa impresses with its more than five-thousand-year-old settlement history. If you want to continue your journey through southern Italy on the mainland, your path will surely lead through
Messina. You should not miss the ancient city with its magnificent palaces, churches, and fountains, but instead, pay it an extensive visit.
