Like to Haarlem?
The Grote Markt is the beating heart of the historic center for centuries. Once at the foot of the statue of Laurens Jansz Coster ( 'Lautje' for Haarlemmermeer) which you can choose in which direction you want to go.
Museums, buildings with a suitable atmosphere, cozy farms and endless quality stores provide a very attractive city center. Go back in time ... If you look around on the pitch so you are eye to eye of late Gothic St. Bavo church opposite, or the town hall from the 14th century, the beautiful and imposing meat hall from the architect Lieven de Key. Stroll to the dreamy canals over and the bustling Spaarne, admire the splendid facades and find the shine of the gold ends century. Where you can feel it better than in the Frans Hals Museum? Then visit the Teylers museum, the oldest museum in the Netherlands
where you speak the same enters into the 19th century.
Incidentally, this applies also for the Museum De Cruquius, a few kilometers from Haarlem. This old steam pumping station is housed in a world-famous neogothic waterworks from 1849 with the largest steam engine in the world. De Cruquius, together with two other steam pumping stations within three years, the Haarlemmermeer
exhausted. Since then, time and steam engine are as unaffected. 1936 was converted into a museum. Here you know the centuries-old battle between man and sea. On 4 June 2002 set Crown Prince Willem Alexander the Cruquius machine hydraulically moving again.
