Location and surroundings of object
The house is situated in a quiet location, 300 metres from the beach entrance Old residential areas, buildings, churches, atmospheric vineyards, parks and ancient trees greet the modern man.
Its name is first mentioned in the land register of Tihany Abbey in 1211. There were several settlements in the area of today's Füred in the Middle Ages. First and foremost was Füred, which is still alive today, but has only played a major role since the Reformation period. South of it was Papsoka -which from the 14th century was called Siske-, in a short time it was merged with Füred. South of Füred was the Kéki valley, which has kept its name from the former Kék village until today. Arács, which is now the north-eastern part of Füred, was an independent municipality until 1954. The settlement of Magyaré, which lies to the south-east of Arács, became the same as Arács until the end of the Middle Ages.
The way of life and the behaviour of the inhabitants and guests of Füred have always been determined by historical tradition. Its tourism dates back to centuries, and after it was declared a health resort in the first half of the 1700s, it immediately came into the focus of the country. Since 1971 it has been the first health resort in our country, and 'the International City of Grapes and Wine'. (since 1987)
It owes its walkability to its Mediterranean climate and its acidulous wells. Today, the water from the fountains is used in the State Heart Clinic with the aim of healing. You can taste the famous acidulous water of Füred at the Kossuth Well, the Berzsenyi Well, the Szekér Ernő Well and the Schneider Well. Many heart patients regained their health in the heart clinic, among them the famous Nobel Prize winner, the Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore, after whom a park path on the shore of the lake was also named.
The city is incredibly rich in historical memorials. Most of these have been altered or renovated. They may have a different function today than in the past, but they are part of Füred's culture. There are many such renowned villas and curiae in the town, whose owners have contributed to the representation of Balatonfüred and brought its reputation far with them.
The architectural masterpiece of the 18th century is the Nagyvendéglő. The State Hospital, the Kossuth Lajos Spring House, the larger house of Pálóczi Horváth Ádám and the castle of Széchenyi Ferenc still set the mood of the town today.
The development of Balatonfüred began in the 1800s, in the age of reform. It became the favourite meeting place of politicians and artists, its historical and cultural role was most significant at that time. The town has numerous monuments, important buildings and traditions from this period: in 1825, the first Anna Ball was held here in the Horváth House.
Kisfaludy Sándor opened the first stone theatre in Transdanubia in 1831 in Balatonfüred, the home of the Hungarian language, when the official language was German. The reform-age atmosphere of the historic lower part of the town is enriched by the Blaha Lujza Villa, where the famous Hungarian prima donna of the turn of the century, the Nightingale of the Nation spent her summers for 23 years. The building now functions as a hotel and inn. The popular spa doctor, Huray István, owner of the Huray Houses had a holiday home here, but among the holiday homes built at that time, the Dőry Holiday House was called the most beautiful, it is worth looking at him. A round, Ionic peristyle with a domed roof stands at the meeting point of Jókai and Blaha Lujza Streets. The Kerektemplom (round church), whose plans were made by Fruhmann Antal, who took the image of the Roman Panteon as a basis, was built in 1850. The Jókai Villa was built in 1870 in early eclectic style. The life of the greatest storyteller and the furniture of the villa are presented in the building through a permanent exhibition.
The Reformed Church, the Catholic Church and the newly built Evangelical Church rise as the treasures of the upper part of the town, as if watching over the tranquillity of the town.
Today's old town -the old village and Balatonarács, which was also annexed in 1954- still has many valuable monuments. On both sides of the main street (Kossuth Street) leading into the old town there are rows of single-storey buildings and multi-storey buildings. In the old village, which is now called the Old Town, the buildings, which also have memorial plaques, preserve the folk forms. Siske Street is the part of the Old Town whose end is already in the forest, a walking street starts here, so it is a wonderful excursion and walking place of Balatonfüred.
