additional information:

Roquetaillade, our village, situated in the middle of the Limoux wine region and surrounded by hills, is a well-preserved medieval mountain village with pretty narrow streets where almost all the houses are built of natural stone. From the church, one of the highest points in the village, there is a beautiful view of the surrounding vineyards with the Domaine du Moulin in the background on the valley floor
Limoux is famous for the longest carnival in Europe (and it gets longer every year) and "Blanquette de Limoux", an excellent sparkling wine made using the Champagne method. Cooking enthusiasts should make a note of Friday, market day, with many regional delicacies on offer. Limoux also has a range of shops and restaurants of varying price points.
La Cité, the stunning medieval fortress of Carcassonne, is a World Heritage Site, inspired Walt Disney and has been the setting for many films including Kevin Costner's "Robin Hood". Within the fortress walls are numerous medieval buildings, unfortunately most now house shops and restaurants. The best way to get the most medieval impression is to take a walk around the ramparts with beautiful views of Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi, also a World Heritage Site, is nearby and can be explored by bike or boat.
Toulouse, with its cathedral and other historic sites, also boasts a picturesque old city centre with pretty parks, flea markets and designer boutiques, so attractive that you may end up with nothing left in the till to try one of the many inviting restaurants. On the outskirts of town is the Musée Spatiale, with entertaining and educational things to do for astronauts of all ages.
Narbonne, the old maritime centre, with its bishop's palace and picturesque narrow streets, is a jewel to discover among the man-made holiday resorts of this coastal strip.
The market place of Mirepoix, with its wooden arcades dating back to the 13th century, invites you to linger and enjoy the medieval atmosphere.
A selection of villages to visit: Minerve - a small village on a peninsula of a deep river valley with two huge tunnels washed out by the river. Alet-les-Bains, a medieval village surrounded by an old city wall with many half-timbered houses and Rennes-le-Chateau, famous for its mysterious priest and the still not found and Gruissan - the most original villages close - a beautiful former fishing village with three bays, a castle, windmill and narrow streets with colorful la Clape - just beautiful rocky landscape and vineyards.
The Cathar castles, mostly clinging like eagle's nests to the rocky mountains, offer fantastic views and testify to the power of this medieval religious sect, which has retained followers to this day. Peyrepertuse is the largest and Lastour the most beautiful castle. The Pyrenees - to list sights and activities here would be beyond the scope Mediterranean with its endless beaches is just over an hour away
Our favourite beach is La Franqui with its pine grove that almost reaches the shore, its lagoon and the small beach houses.
There are also many gorges and caves to discover in the Languedoc. One of the most impressive gorges is Gorges de Galamus, with its winding road carved into the rock. Near the end of the gorge is a hermitage that clings to the steep cliff area of Aude is rich in prehistoric fossils. Therefore, in Espéraza there is an excellent dinosaur museum (next to the hat museum) where you can admire many fossils and reconstructions of local finds. School trips are also organised to a disused quarry next to Domaine du Moulin to see fossils, the Grotte de Niaux is claimed to have the best prehistoric paintings after the Grotte de Lascaux, and the prehistoric park nearby illustrates Stone Age life for children young and old in very attractively landscaped grounds. Wine tasting - we are in the most productive wine growing area in the world here. For those who want to be active, there are for example the following offers in the region around Limoux: hiking, cycling/mountain biking, canoeing/kayaking, white water rafting (only in spring), swimming, canyonning, caving, fishing, paragliding, hot air ballooning, climbing, abseiling, adventure playgrounds, horse riding, archery, tennis, golf and skiing (yes really, the nearest ski lift is about an hour's drive away).

Long-term holiday

We spent 5 weeks in Haus Cypres and felt very comfortable. The house is beautiful, the kitchen super well equipped and you can sleep very well in the beds. The grounds and the pool invite you to linger. The hosts Ariane and David are very nice, always available and happy to provide information for excursions in the area. Thank you very much for a wonderful time!

We are sorry .......

..., we could not enjoy this property as it was offered to us. But our "special mission" did not give us enough opportunity to relax and enjoy the house and the property as it should be. From our point of view, we can only recommend the house and the other objects of the landlord on the property. Only the climbing frame on the hill to the sheepfold needs some attention from David. We will not forget the almost friendly stay so quickly, nor the (corona-related limited) coffee afternoon in Magrie. Respect for Ariane's interior design ideas and to David, who implements them, which inspired us a lot.

Can you book them?

In any case, we are looking forward to our new home in the further surroundings of Roquetaillade and are sure that we will come back.

Angenehmer Aufenthalt, sehr nette Vermieter
