The house was restored by an experienced architect and unfolds a lot of charm. Massive wooden beam ceilings, rooms carefully designed with natural colours, natural stone and solid wooden floors spread an atmosphere of timelessness and tranquillity. Spacious rooms invite you to socialise or spend quiet hours. Candles, a library, a piano invite you to leisure and romance. A sunny, warm courtyard with beautiful garden furniture invites you to breakfast al fresco. Beautiful old furniture and four-poster beds with feather duvets and cotton covers ensure peaceful sleep
If more than 9 people rent the house, you will need an additional room, the "old stable" as a common room
For groups of up to 16 people, my circus wagon is available in the summer in special cases.

Location and surroundings of object
The Holunderhof is located in the middle of the quiet, small village, surrounded by a large garden of over 2000 sqm and two barns. One of the two barns can also be used for creative courses, sculpture, painting or theatre in the summer. Rittern is one of the quietest places I've been except for the few days a year when the farmers harvest their fields and the combine harvesters rattle. ...you can hear birds chirping here and the children on holiday. Now and then a bulldog and Saturday bustle in the gardens. Rittern is home to 85 people, about 300 cattle, 6-8 horses and 12 sheep, many cats and a few dogs. On the often clear nights, the starry sky is almost as glittering as in Nevada. The Milky Way shows itself and if you lie on your back in the garden in August, shooting stars come true
Where is this magical place?
Directly on the Limes, in the Franconian Lake District, on the top terrace of the upper Altmühl Valley
5 km from Lake Brombach, but far away from its tourism, Rittern belongs to the municipality of Theilenhofen. It is a 45-minute walk through the Limes forest to Thannhäuser, where you can dine in the former Maierhof of Siboto de Thannhusir, the minstrel. On the way, you cross the main European watershed between the Danube and the Rhine, and leave the Roman Empire.
Dangle the soul
In an ancient landscape, shaped by Celts and Romans, close to romantic medieval towns and many beautiful villages. Who doesn't know Dinkelsbühl and Rothenburg? Nearer Weißenburg, once Roman Bircinium, and Spalt, the town of hops, are a little less well known but just as beautiful.
You can swim in the nearby Brombachsee, hike along the Limes Trail, cycle along the nearby Altmühl or go boating on this tranquil river that winds through romantic rocks south of Treuchtlingen. Or climb these rocks and look for fossils in the quarries around Solnhofen.
Or simply do nothing.
Walk around the quiet lakes in winter, or have nice conversations by the wood-burning stove.

Cancellation terms:
- You will be refunded half of the booking amount minus the cancellation fee, if you cancel the booking at least 7 days before the planned check-in until 12 o’clock midday CET (Central European time). For cancellations which are made less than 7 days before check-in there will be no refund.

Dogs are welcome if they are not hunting dogs. There are 3 friendly cats living on the farm who tolerate dogs.
Rental only from a rental period of 3 nights. The normal prices are only valid for 5 days or more.
