Description
After we had already transformed the "Upleward Cottage" (no. 30487) in the neighbouring village into a quaint holiday cottage according to our own ideas - which was a lot of fun for us - we renovated and cosily furnished the cottage in Campen in 2010. As in Upleward, a Mediterranean touch, light-flooded rooms and a certain openness to the outside world were important to us
This approximately 90-square-metre rustic cottage in shabby-chic style offers a spacious, fully equipped, bright country kitchen with dining area, a dining area with a large dining table, a cosy living room with a wood-burning stove (and a sofa bed for two), a cosy bedroom with a double bed and a baby cot, two fun and colourful children's bedrooms - a triple and a single - and an additional hall room for one more person. Through the large patio door in the living room, you can access the south-west facing gravel terrace and the pretty landscaped garden, with garden furniture and sunshade. Here you can enjoy a cup of coffee or a barbecue in the fresh air, or play and romp around. Parking spaces for cars are also
The charm of the house lies in the successful combination of old building fabric - also recognisable by the thick walls - with modern room layout and cosy furnishings in vintage style. We have been able to uncover and preserve the original wooden beams in the living room, kitchen and hallways. The entire ground floor has warm-looking wooden floors. Nevertheless, the house is thermally insulated according to modern requirements. On cool evenings, in addition to the gas central heating, a wood-burning stove provides crackling cosiness. The furniture is tasteful and practical - children are welcome to let off steam. Basic bicycles and a holiday library are available. We provide well-kept bed linen and towels. Recreation
This cottage can be used just as well alone or as a couple as with a large family. Even with a full occupancy of 9 people, there is still room for individual retreat - reading, reflecting, walking or simply taking a break
Our "Campino", a fully equipped trailer with shower and kitchen for two more people, can also be booked on the premises.
You can also book our convertible if you want to experience the East Frisian landscape in an open car.

Location and surroundings of object
Situated very quietly on the edge of the village, the cottage offers a fantastic, unobstructed view of the surrounding fields and the vastness of the East Frisian landscape. You feel like you are in the middle of nature. From the attic room you can see the nearby dyke. You can even catch fish (rudd) in the canal in front of the house. Sometimes deer graze close to the house - an idyll, not only for children. You can get fresh bread rolls in the morning in a small corner shop
The cottage is located in Campen in the East Frisian Krummhörn, just a few minutes from the beach on the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site with extensive play and leisure facilities. Kite surfing is very popular here. In the summer half-year, guided mudflat walks are offered by locals by the sea. In the village you can visit the agricultural museum and the well-known Campen lighthouse. Around Campen there are wonderful cycling and walking routes, along the many canals and by the sea and dyke. If necessary, additional bicycles can be rented in Campen.
It is only a few minutes to the dike and the sea with numerous tourist facilities. Fishing opportunities are available in the sea (surf fishing, approx. 2 km) and in the canal (approx. 1 km). The Campener (2 km) and the Pilsum lighthouse (11 km) are also not far away. The romantic fishing village of Greetsiel with its two famous windmills has numerous restaurants, tea rooms, pubs, a swimming pool and a wellness oasis as well as a large playground and children's playhouse and is only 14 km away. You can also take a trip to the nearby village of Rysum - a typical East Frisian terp village and once awarded the title of most beautiful village in Lower Saxony. Day trips from Norddeich (33 km) to Norderney and Juist and from the Knock (9 km) to Borkum are very popular. The seaport town of Emden (13 km) invites you to take a harbour tour, visit a museum ( Henri Nannen Museum) or simply stroll around. All shopping and supply possibilities can be found in Rysum, 3 km away, or in Pewsum, 7 km away.

Overall assessment

Also recommended for 1 night only
In July, I rented the cottage with 3 friends for a short weekend trip.
When we arrived, I was really excited to see if the pictures would match reality and I have to say, we were not disappointed.
It is a very lovingly furnished cottage with enough space.
We found the creaking floorboards and the room layouts particularly charming.
For sleeping we split up, 2 slept in the "marriage bed" and 2 in the bunk bed in the "children's room" and that very well and restful.
If you don't want to cook for yourself, there are plenty of options to dine outside
The landlords have noted recommendations that you can follow, or you can take the car to Greetsiel, which we did and only took about 15 minutes to drive, there are some nice restaurants.
The cottage is very quiet and secluded and is therefore, in my opinion, more suitable for holidaymakers who prefer to live a little away from the larger towns.
However, as already mentioned, it is not far to Greetsiel or Norddeich (30 minutes drive).
So if you want a quiet holiday without a lot of noise, or if you like old creaking floors and stairs, this is the place for you.
In any case, we liked it very much and were able to relax from our daily work routine.
However, if you prefer to have everything within walking distance and don't want to do without Wi-Fi, you should better look for another holiday flat.
I would also like to praise the fact that, in my case, Mr Binder always responded very quickly to my enquiries by e-mail.

Holiday home with charm
We, two people with a dog, felt very comfortable during the two days.
The house is very cosy, inviting and tastefully furnished. Everything you need is available.
Larger towns and shopping facilities (e.g. Emden) can be reached quickly by car
If you absolutely have to have internet and can't live with creaking floorboards, then you shouldn't spend your holiday in an old house with self-catering, but rather stay in a modern city hotel.
In any case, we liked it very much.
Thank you very much for two wonderful days.

Simple and beautiful,.....
No promises are made, but you have to like it, it is very original, with lots of lovely details, because it is absolutely individual. I don't want to reveal any details; there were two of us with a long-haired collie, and it is exactly what we needed. We had, for example, a completely rainy day, which is always a bit tricky with a long-haired dog, but it was no problem in the large entrance hall; the rest of the house is also rustic and robust. Old and new harmonize, and even the bedding, dishes, etc. are all very tasteful. For us, something like this is important because we don't just want to eat and sleep in a vacation rental. The children's room is a dream for little guests who don't like sitting alone in front of the TV, great games, child-friendly furnishings, ... (we saw vacation rentals where there was a separate TV/CD player in the children's room). So far, we have always booked 4 or 5-star certified vacation rentals in the often encountered vacation rental settlements. However, they didn't have this charm, we will gladly come back. It was pure relaxation in a cozy atmosphere. The bakery/kiosk around the corner has delicious rolls, even on Sundays. The garden is just as individual, there are even herbs, the lawn is a beautiful herb meadow; and from what I could see, there are also fruit trees. And in the evening, a nice walk with the dog directly either along the field edge or through the village. Dogs and children are really welcome here. A small downside, two houses are being built right next door, but the view over the fields is still there. The percentage rating that follows is certainly individual because it depends greatly on what one expects and what one finds important.

Vicinity of the holiday home: Sehr
ruhig gelegen, aber Alles was man braucht in erreicbarer Nähe, Greetsiel
und Pewsum sind von uns bevorzugte Orte, Greetsiel möglichst früh, dann
ist es nicht so voll.
free time activities: Haben

After many years in Africa and Asia, which we often had to spend in uncomfortable hotel rooms, we have extended and furnished our Campen Cottage the way we always wanted: open, sunny, practical and cosy - with Mediterranean flair and Nordic comfort. Visitors should feel welcome, rural life in a big kitchen, a big wild garden, peace and quiet when needed, children should be able to let off steam, cycle to the sea and climb trees. Get fresh milk from the farm, horse riding, fishing ....
