Description
On the edge of the village of Raissac d'Aude, Le Ramonétage is a comfortable and cosy flat of about 70m². in a former winery. It has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a living room and a well-equipped kitchen.
The flat is located in an outbuilding behind the main house, above the former stables, which have been transformed into a large games room, with a table tennis table, dart game and board games. Here you will also find beach chairs, parasols, etc. which you can use freely.
You can park at your front door, on the enclosed property (space for 5 cars).
Apart from the local shop, you can buy everything you need in the village of Canet d'Aude, 5 minutes away, with its shops and restaurants. For bulk shopping, you can also drive to Lezignan Corbieres (10 min), where there are also supermarkets, or to Narbonne (15 min); so everything is close by.

The property:
The property consists of one long building, which is divided into three parts:
In front the main building, then the old stables with the guest flat and behind it the barn. The whole is surrounded by a private plot of about 4000 m² with fruit trees, palm trees and - not to forget - the majestic cedar at the side of the house.
Behind the barn is a large lawn - ideal for playing or having a meal outside (barbecue nearby). There is seating everywhere and whether you prefer sun or shade, everyone will find their place of comfort here.
The fenced pool (shared with the owners) is in the sun all day and besides sunbeds, there is also a table and chairs for when you want to enjoy your meal by the water. The so-called summer kitchen, the 'cuisine d'été', is equipped with a sideboard with sink and a fridge for the necessary cool drinks. There is also a barbecue.
For the summer evenings, there is of course lighting here, but you can also sit somewhere in the dark on a lounger and admire the beautiful starry sky and watch the bats.

Location and surroundings of object
Abbaye de Fontfroide - restored 11th century Benedictine monastery with a beautiful rose garden.
Sigean Safari Park - 15km south of Narbonne, 300 ha with more than 3,800 animals.
Basilique St-Nazaire - In Carcassonne. The first church said to have been built in the 6th century under the Wisigoths and King Theodoric. Documentation dates back to 925.
La Cité in Carcassonne is a must-see. This impressive old fortress has played a central role in local history for centuries.
Carcassonne Festival - From July to August - with open-air concerts and theatre.
Lac Cavayere near Carcassonne, a beautiful lake with picnic facilities, pedalos for hire, mini golf, fishing, sandy beaches and a 'climbing forest'. All around you can take a nice walk through the pine forest.
The Cathar Route - The area is rich in traces from the history of the Cathars. It is interesting to read about this and then visit the many castle ruins in the area.
Canal du Midi - When the canal made a connection between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean in the 17th century, it brought trade and prosperity to the region - today it is mainly used for tourism - take a boat trip or simply a bike ride along the water, in the shade of the old plane trees. The canal is only 5 km from the house.
Toulouse - also called the 'pink city'.
Cassoulet Route - If you like good food, then a trip to Castelnaudary is worthwhile where you must try the famous 'cassoulet'.
La Clape massif - Once an island, now an area of some 15,000 ha, situated between the coast and Narbonne. Interesting for its varied landscape (pine forests, cliffs) but above all for the spectacular views.
The inland lakes - the coast of the Aude region has many saltwater inland lakes. Salt mountains, rich fauna and flora and large oyster farms make this area a beloved destination (either by bike or by boat).
And then, of course, the beaches! The Mediterranean beaches are wide and mostly of fine sand. Close by is Narbonne Plage but there is an enormous choice of other beaches available.
Raissac d'Aude is such a typical, sleepy French village - there are only 260 inhabitants and the road that leads here also ends here. So it's not surprising that it's quite peaceful here. Surrounded by vineyards, little has changed here over the past decades. Nevertheless, the location is ideal - far from the hustle and bustle and noise, yet not far from the medieval city of Carcassonne, the Mediterranean coast, the Corbières hills, or the endless vineyards. It is also only 15 minutes drive to the centre of Narbonne and only 5 minutes to the Canal du Midi. The town of Lézignan Corbieres (market every Wednesday) is a 10 minute drive and the famous Cathar castles are all within 1-2 hours drive. Local wine is available everywhere at reasonable prices - so a visit to one of the many wine cellars is well worthwhile and if you fancy something a little different - the Spanish border is only 1 hour's drive away.
Raissac itself has a small shop where you can buy fresh bread, croissants and other groceries, there is also a post office and a wine cellar where you can taste wine every Tuesday and Friday morning. In the church square there is a butcher and a fishmonger once a week. In the village park there is a playground for the little ones.
The nearest bar is in Canet d'Aude (5 min), as well as a good pizzeria, a small supermarket, bakery, pharmacy, newsagent, butcher and a tennis court. More restaurants can be found in nearby Ventenac and Paraza on the Canal du Midi (5km) and for even more choice there are numerous other villages with restaurants within about 15 minutes drive of Raissac.
Narbonne is also easily accessible (without bends) within a quarter of an hour, here you have a wide choice of shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants, large supermarkets and there is also a fantastic covered market (open every day until 1pm), as well as a weekly market (Sunday and Thursday mornings).
Lezignan Corbieres is less than 15 minutes away and has a large and friendly weekly market every Wednesday. There is also a selection of shops along the main street.

Accommodation just like in the movies!
Date: End of August until beginning of September 2012
A wonderful accommodation, very well maintained, just like on the internet! We had two children with us, 7 and 8. The flat is ideal for people who like to explore the surroundings and still want to go to the sea without all the hustle and bustle. I had to remind myself of the film "A Good Year" every day, because that's exactly how I felt. We had the pool all to ourselves, the children were allowed to run around as much as they wanted and jumping in was no problem.
So many thanks, from Sabine and Ralf, it was so nice, we love it!!!!
