Leybuchtpolder the youngest village in East Frisia on the North Sea coast
Leybuchtpolder, named after the bay, the Leybucht, was wrested from the North Sea in 1950 by the construction of the Stoertebecker dike after a long process of land reclamation. A few hundred years ago, the legendary pirate Klaus Stoertebecker had his fairway here in the direction of Marienhafe, where he hid himself and his rich booty in the church tower there. The workers who built the Stoertebecker dike with the heaviest manual labour were all entitled to a settler's place in the newly created Leybuchtpolder. Thus about 100 families, many of them displaced persons, had found a new existence. After more than 50 years, the arduous beginnings have now turned into a flourishing green village. At that time, almost all villagers made their living from agriculture. Today, there are only a few large farms that still exist from dairy farming or pig breeding or fattening.
In the meantime, the old Stoertebeck dike (6.50 m above sea level) has given way to a century-old structure. In the course of the "Leybucht" coastal protection project, the dike has now been raised to 8.60 m above sea level and offers secure protection against storm surges
Cultural life in Leybuchtpolder is characterised by a lively club life. The sports club "SV Leybucht", the fire brigade and the "Uitersthoern" club (East Frisian folk sport) ensure that village life is kept busy with their events. This is very well accepted by the population and also by our guests. Two churches and the primary school "An der Leybucht" are firmly integrated into village life.
An absolute highlight is a visit to the Welsh stud farm Leybucht with the Siemers family. Under expert guidance, pony riding is also offered here during the holiday months. A small animal zoo on this farm attracts many guests from near and far.
The Eschenhof restaurant has become a meeting place for locals and guests.
Leybuchtpolder has become a permanent address for many holiday families who are looking for a quiet, peaceful holiday home for themselves and their children. Due to its proximity to the fishing village of Greetsiel, the North Sea resort of Norden - Norddeich, the North Sea islands and many other places, Leybuchtpolder in East Frisia on the North Sea coast has become a good base for a relaxing holiday.
