additional information:

Roquetaillade, our village, situated in the middle of the Limoux wine region and surrounded by hills, is a well-preserved medieval mountain village with pretty, narrow streets where almost all the houses are built of natural stone. From the church, one of the highest points in the village, there is a beautiful view of the surrounding vineyards with the Domaine du Moulin in the background on the is famous for the longest carnival in Europe (and it gets longer every year) and "Blanquette de Limoux", an excellent sparkling wine made using the champagne method. Cooking enthusiasts should make a note of Friday, market day, with many regional delicacies on offer. Limoux also has a range of shops and restaurants of varying price points.'La Cité, the stunning medieval fortress of Carcassonne, is a World Heritage Site, inspired Walt Disney and has been the setting for many films including Kevin Costner's 'Robin Hood'. Within the fortress walls are numerous medieval buildings, unfortunately most now house shops and restaurants. The most medieval impression is best gained by a walk around the ramparts with beautiful views of Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi, also a World Heritage Site, is nearby and can be explored by bike or boat with its cathedral and other historic sites. It also boasts a picturesque old town centre with pretty parks, flea markets and designer boutiques, so attractive that you may end up with nothing left in the till to try one of the many inviting restaurants. On the outskirts of the town, the Musée Spatiale offers entertainment and education for astronauts of all , the old maritime centre, with its bishop's palace and picturesque narrow streets, is a jewel to be discovered among the man-made holiday developments of this coastal strip Marketplace of Mirepoix, with its wooden arcades dating back to the 13th century. A selection of villages worth visiting: Minerve - a small village on a peninsula of a deep river valley with two huge tunnels washed out by the river. Alet-les-Bains, a medieval village surrounded by an old city wall with many half-timbered houses and Rennes-le-Chateau, famous for its mysterious priest and the still not found and Gruissan - the most original villages close - a beautiful former fishing village with three bays, a castle, Windmill and narrow streets with colourful la Clape - simply beautiful, rocky countryside and Cathar castles, most of which cling to the rocky mountains like eagles' nests, offer fantastic views and testify to the power of this medieval religious sect, which has retained followers to this day. Peyrepertuse is the largest and Lastour the most beautiful castle. To list the Pyrenees sights and activities here would be beyond the scope Mediterranean Sea with its endless beaches is just over an hour away. Our favourite beach is La Franqui with its pine forest that almost reaches the shore, its lagoon and the small beaches of the Languedoc. One of the most impressive gorges is Gorges de Galamus, with its winding road carved into the rock. Near the end of the gorge is a hermitage clinging to the steep rock face. The area of Aude is rich in prehistoric fossils. This is why there is an excellent dinosaur museum in Espéraza (right next to the hat museum), where you can admire many fossils and reconstructions of local finds. School trips are also organised to a disused quarry next to Domaine du Moulin to see fossils, the Grotte de Niaux is claimed to have the best prehistoric paintings after the Grotte de Lascaux, and the prehistoric park nearby illustrates Stone Age life for children young and old in very attractively landscaped grounds. Wine tasting - we are in the most productive wine-growing area in the world here. For those who want to be active, there are, for example, the following offers in the Limoux region: hiking, cycling/mountain biking, canoeing/kayaking, white water rafting (only in spring), swimming, canyonning, caving, fishing, paragliding, hot air ballooning, climbing, abseiling, adventure playgrounds, horse riding, archery, tennis, golf and skiing (yes really, the nearest ski lift is about an hour's drive away).

Two weeks of happiness

Two weeks in the Bergerie, a holiday home from whose terrace we had a fantastic view of the snow-capped peaks of the Pyrenees, situated on a slope in a park-like landscape with Mediterranean woods. We felt at home there for a fortnight and lived like God in France thanks to the facilities of our domicile. For a fortnight we were pampered by pleasant temperatures. For a fortnight we were able to benefit from the recommendations of our friendly hostess, which are not to be found in travel guides. Two weeks exploring the cultural highlights of the Aude and Ariège regions ... and we are quite sure: There will be two more weeks in this enchanting gite in Roquetaillade!

Vicinity of the holiday home: Die Wohnung liegt etwas abgelegen in Hanglage und in vollkommener Ruhe.

free time activities: Hier wirds nicht langweilig:

recommend for: adventure and experience, cultural and sightseeing holiday, romantic holiday

Vicinity of the holiday home: Wunderschön, romantisch, für Exkursionen und Wanderungen sehr geeignet, ruhig, trotzdem nahe am Städtchen Limoux, zusätzliches Bonbon der Swimmingpool,

free time activities: Wandern und Kunst

shopping facilities: 8 km in Limoux alles, was man braucht
